Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your request for information on the Graduate Program in Urban Planning. The program consists of a two-year, 48-credit-hour course of study leading to the Master of Urban Planning degree. Each student takes a core of 21 hours of required courses and also specializes in one area of concentration (taking at least 12 hours). The specialty concentrations we currently offer planning, urban design, and urban and regional development.
To apply for admission, please submit the following:
- Application for Admission;
- Three letters of reference or print out 3 Recommendation Form;
- A statement of interest covering your rationale for undertaking graduate study in planning, which should include career goals and areas of particular interest within the field;
- Two official copies of all college and university transcripts;
- Financial statement (it is necessary to have a minimum of $19,148 per school year to cover the cost of your studies);
- TOEFL score (if your native language is not English);
- GRE scores (if available);
- Payment of a $60.00 paper application fee (make out check or money order to "University of Kansas") or $55.00 for an online application.
Graduate Record Examination scores are not required. However, it is recommended that a student with a GPA below 3.0 and/or low (below C) grades in courses with economic and mathematical content, or lack of undergraduate courses in these areas, submit GRE scores. Thus, the faculty may be better equipped in evaluating the student's prospects for graduate study in the field of planning at K.U.
On the following pages you will find application and recommendation forms, as well as a catalog describing the Program in more detail. We do not require a personal interview, but if you are in Lawrence we urge you to visit the Program office. I shall try to arrange for you to meet some of the faculty members and students. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your interest in the University of Kansas. We look forward to hearing from you. |
