Chair, Architecture Program

 

The Architecture Program in the School of Architecture and Urban Design seeks applications and nominations for the position of Chair, which will commence in July, 2006. The Chair will be responsible for administering and leading the Architecture Program as it begins a series of important curricular and pedagogical changes. The architecture faculty has approved a transition from a Bachelor of Architecture to a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) professional degree, a strengthening of the current post-professional masters programs and the creation of a doctoral program. The transition to the professional M.Arch. is currently underway, and the implementation of the post-professional and doctoral degree programs will begin during the Fall 2006 semester.

The University of Kansas is located in Lawrence, Kansas, approximately thirty miles west of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. As the Association of American Universities (AAU) research university of the state, the University of Kansas offers a broad array of advanced graduate study programs and fulfills its mission through faculty, academic and research programs of international distinction and outstanding libraries, teaching museums and information technology. The Architecture Program will celebrate its centenary of architectural education in 2013. The Program has established a design curriculum of philosophical breadth and has achieved national prominence in design/build education and research, post-professional programs in architectural management and a long-standing connection to the Architectural Engineering Program in the School of Engineering. The Architecture Program has urban design studios in Kansas City and summer, semester and year-long foreign study programs in Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark and Germany. The Chair of Architecture reports to the Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Design.

Candidates must possess demonstrated abilities in leading and managing a graduate program of architecture, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a nationally recognized body of work in practice, research and/or teaching. The successful candidate will possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed as a tenured Associate or Full Professor at the University of Kansas. Preferred qualifications include a terminal degree in architecture and professional registration and/or an earned doctorate.
