Architectural Resource Center
The Architectural Resource Center, located on the 4th floor of Marvin Hall, consists of the Donald E. & Mary Bole Hatch Architectural Reading Room and the Architectural Slide Library. The mission of the A.R.C. is to provide pertinent materials for teaching, learning and research to faculty, staff, and students of the School of Architecture and Urban Design and the School of Fine Arts. The staff is dedicated to keep A.R.C. materials up to date with current directions in architecture, design, and planning, but as well makes it a priority to have a well-rounded, historically diverse collection.
Donald E. & Mary Bole Hatch Architectural Reading Room
The Donald E. & Mary Bole Hatch Architectural Reading Room, located in room #407, consists of a non-circulating collection of over 4,000 books, 30 ongoing magazine subscriptions, and a small collection of maps. The Reading Room also has a photocopier, 4 network connected computer terminals for research and email access, plus 1 digital design workstation with graphics software, scanner, and inkjet printer.
Beyond the books, magazines and computers, the Reading Room has plenty of tables, chairs, and couches making it a great place to research, read, and study.
Reading Room Hours: Fall/ Spring: Mon-Thurs: 10am-5pm, 7:30pm-9:30pm; Fri: 10am-5pm; Sat: Closed; Sun: 7:30pm-9:30pm
Summer: Mon-Fri: 8am-12pm, 1pm- 5pm
Architectural Slide Library
The Architectural Slide Library, located in room #405, houses a collection over 85,000 35mm slides providing instructional and research support to the School of Architecture and Urban Design and the School of Fine Arts. Approximately 6000 slides are added each year.
Along with the continuing development of the 35mm slide collection, a digital image database is ia available at the following location: SAUD Public Digital Slide Library
The Slide Library has 9 light tables and one slide projector in which to view slides. Slide projectors and slide carousels are available for checkout. Reservations are recommended.
Slide Circulation Policy: For Faculty slides can be reserved for up to a week, and must be returned within 3 days of checkout. For Students slides can be reserved for up to 3 days, and must be returned within 24 hours of checkout.
Projector & Carousel Circulation Policy: For Faculty and Students projectors and carousels can be reserved for up to a semester, and must be returned within 2 hours of checkout.
Slide Requests:
Faculty may request slides for addition to the Slide Library collection. Slide Request Forms must be filled out completely for each image requested. Please allow two weeks for slides to be completed. If Slide Request Forms do not accompany source materials turnaround time may be considerably longer. All slides requested will be added to the Slide Library collection, no exceptions. Students and staff may not request slides unless sponsored by a faculty member, although suggestions are welcome.
